Meet Sonnjea

Karma = Mission

There’s a Buddhist concept about changing karma into mission, meaning that the troubles we overcome in life equip us to help others who are facing similar obstacles. Thriving through my own trials and tribulations has made me an empathetic ally for clients facing a wide range of issues.

I work with women and men who are facing changes—whether welcome changes, or the decidedly unwelcome changes that life sometimes thrusts upon us—and want support, encouragement, accountability and most of all, someone who will truly hear, acknowledge and validate them in their process of leveling up their life.

Co-creative Approach

I provide a collaborative, co-creative approach to coaching that’s based on the International Coaching Federation’s (ICF’s) core competencies. This process involves me asking powerful, thought-provoking questions to evoke new levels of awareness and empower you to design a strategy to achieve your goals.

I’m empathetic, compassionate and down to earth, and I believe that humor is an important ingredient in life—and coaching.

Background & Experience

Coaching: I completed ICF-accredited training through the Yes, And Coaching Institute and am currently enrolled in a National Board of Health & Wellness Coaching-accredited program through the Institute of Holistic Integrative Studies.

Applied Improvisation: I trained at Groundlings, Held2gether and The Second City, and I’m a graduate of The Second City Hollywood’s Directing Program. I taught improv at Held2gether and founded the Long Beach Improv Collective. I have also presented improv workshops entitled “Got Creativity?” at ATD’s International Conference and Expo.

Life: I’m a writer, an entrepreneur, an improv instructor, and a nanny for an amazing kiddo on the spectrum. And a coach, of course—but you already knew that!

Karma into mission: Divorce after 30+ years of marriage; MS, celiac disease and osteoporosis; losing jobs, changing careers and moving to a whole new state; 3 broken vertebrae—ouch!—and discovering what it means to be a single 50-something woman with unexpected health issues that affect me on a daily basis.
